The right Lolita shoes support the coordinate and the day you plan to have in it. Heel height matters, but so do foot length, toe width, straps, platforms, socks and the amount of walking between home and the event.

Choose for the route before the photograph

Start with the real itinerary. A café meet-up with a short taxi journey asks less of a shoe than a convention, museum day or city walk. Count stations, stairs, queues and outdoor surfaces as part of the outfit.

For a long route, flats and low block heels are usually easier to manage. A higher heel can work for a formal tea party or portrait session when walking is limited. A platform changes the effective angle of the foot, so compare platform height and heel height separately.

Measure both feet

Measure late in the day while standing, wearing the socks or tights you expect to use. Place the heel against a wall, mark the longest toe and measure the distance in centimetres. Repeat for the other foot and use the longer measurement.

Why size conversion alone is unreliable

Match the shoe to the coordinate

Break in new shoes safely
